Hyperliquid Referral Codes: How to Save on Fees

Use a Hyperliquid referral code to get a 4% discount on trading fees. Learn how the referral system works, how to create your own code, and how discounts stack with staking tiers.

What Is a Hyperliquid Referral Code?

A Hyperliquid referral code gives new users a 4% discount on taker fees for their first $25 million in cumulative trading volume. The code is applied when you first connect your wallet through a referral link (format: app.hyperliquid.xyz/join/CODE). The relationship is permanent and immutable — once a referral code is attached to your account, it cannot be changed.

The referral system is purely on-chain and requires no KYC or account creation beyond connecting a wallet. If you are creating a new Hyperliquid account, using a referral code like HIPERWIRE is one of the simplest ways to reduce your trading costs from day one.

How the Discount Works

The 4% referral discount applies to taker fees and positive maker fees across both perpetual and spot markets. At the base perpetual taker rate of 0.045%, this reduces your effective fee to approximately 0.0432%. The discount compounds with other fee reductions — your volume tier discount and staking tier discount are applied first, and the referral discount reduces the resulting fee by an additional 4%.

The discount is active for your first $25 million in cumulative trading volume. After reaching that threshold, the referral discount expires but all other fee reductions (volume tiers, staking tiers) continue. For most retail traders, $25 million in volume represents months or years of active trading, so the referral discount lasts a meaningful amount of time.

How to Apply a Referral Code

Visit app.hyperliquid.xyz/join/HIPERWIRE (or any valid referral code) and connect your wallet for the first time. The code is captured at the moment of first wallet connection. This is a hard restriction — referral codes cannot be applied to existing accounts. If you have already connected your wallet and traded on Hyperliquid, the discount cannot be retroactively applied.

If you have not yet used Hyperliquid, simply use the referral link before your first connection. There is no additional step — the discount activates automatically on your first trade.

How to Create Your Own Referral Code

Any trader who reaches $10,000 in lifetime trading volume can generate a permanent referral code. Navigate to app.hyperliquid.xyz/referrals, enter your desired code string, and generate it. The code is permanent — it cannot be changed or deleted after creation. Your shareable link will be app.hyperliquid.xyz/join/YOURCODE.

As a referrer, you earn 10% of the taker fees paid by every user you refer, for each referred user's first $1 billion in trading volume. There is no cap on the number of users you can refer. Rewards accrue across all quote assets and become claimable once they exceed $1, deposited directly into your spot balance.

Stacking Discounts: Referral + Staking + Volume

Hyperliquid's fee system layers three types of discounts that all stack together. Your volume tier sets the base rate (7 tiers from VIP 0 to VIP 6). Staking HYPE reduces fees by 5% (Wood, 10+ HYPE) up to 40% (Diamond, 500,000+ HYPE). The referral code provides an additional 4% reduction on top of everything.

For example, at VIP 2 tier (0.035% taker) with Silver staking (15% discount) and a referral code (4% discount): 0.035% × (1 - 0.15) × (1 - 0.04) = 0.02856%. Every fraction of a percent matters when compounded across thousands of trades.

Referral Codes vs. Builder Codes

Referral codes and builder codes are two separate systems. Referral codes give the user a fee discount and give the referrer a share of fees — they are permanent and account-level. Builder codes are per-order fee additions that app developers attach to trades routed through their interfaces, earning them revenue on every order.

Builder codes do not replace or override referral discounts — they operate on different sides of the fee calculation. A user can have both an active referral code (reducing their base fee) and interact with apps that use builder codes (adding a builder fee on top). The two systems coexist and are processed through the same reward claim infrastructure.
