Nine Brokerages Open Cerebras at Buy as the Quiet Period Lifts

Nine major brokerages opened coverage on Cerebras at the equivalent of a Buy on Monday, the moment the post-IPO quiet period expired, and the synthetic CBRS perp ripped 16.28% to $227 on the wave. Price targets ran from Morgan Stanley's $250 to Citi's $340, with most of the desk clustered at $300, against a stock that had drifted near $200 after its May debut faded. The bull case rests on Cerebras' OpenAI and AWS inference deals; the bear case is a triple-digit earnings multiple that already prices much of that in. The initiation bounce reclaims ground the post-IPO fade took, but it has not yet challenged the day-one highs.

Mover Brief

Nine Buys in One Morning

On Monday, nine brokerages initiated coverage on Cerebras with the equivalent of a Buy rating as the company's post-IPO quiet period expired — the window that bars underwriters and their covering analysts from publishing until roughly 25 days after an IPO. Every one came out bullish. Citi's Atif Malik set the high mark at $340, Morgan Stanley anchored the low at $250, and the bulk — UBS, Mizuho, Needham, Rosenblatt, Barclays, TD Cowen — clustered at or near $300. With the cash stock drifting close to $200 into the print, that target band implied roughly 25% to 70% upside, and the xyz:CBRS perp ran 16.28% over 16h to $227.00.

The Round Trip Since the IPO

Cerebras priced its IPO at $185 a share, above the raised range, then opened on the Nasdaq on May 14 and jumped roughly 68% on its debut in the biggest US listing of 2026. That euphoria didn't hold. The stock faded for weeks as the pre-IPO basis trade closed and skeptics zeroed in on the multiple, and by early June it had given back most of the pop, trading near $200. HIPERWIRE has tracked this name the whole way down through the post-IPO reset. The initiation wave is the first real counter-bid — it reclaims a chunk of ground the fade had taken, but it has not yet challenged the debut highs that sit well above current levels.

Bull Case vs the Multiple

What the sell side is underwriting is inference. Cerebras' multi-year OpenAI agreement covers roughly 750MW of capacity and is valued north of $20 billion at full expansion, and an AWS term sheet puts its wafer-scale systems inside hyperscaler data centers. Mizuho frames the fast-inference market reaching about $550 billion by 2030, and the analysts model revenue scaling from $510 million in 2025 toward $6.8 billion by 2028. The counterweight is price: even after the fade, CBRS carries a triple-digit P/E and a sales multiple that makes the stock a leveraged bet on those projections landing. The targets say upside; the multiple says much of it is already in. The next cash open and follow-through volume on the perp are the tells for whether this bounce has legs or fades like the debut did.
