Coinbase Takes Over Hyperliquid's USDC Stack as CLARITY Act Hits Markup

Coinbase was named the official USDC treasury deployer on Hyperliquid, displacing USDH and locking down the roughly $5 billion of USDC float already sitting on the venue. Native Markets is granting Coinbase rights to the USDH brand assets and Coinbase has stepped up its staked HYPE position, deepening the alignment between the two franchises. The deal landed the same morning the Senate Banking Committee opened its markup of the CLARITY Act, a one-two catalyst that pulled a beaten-up COIN off the floor after last week's Q1 miss and Tuesday's hot CPI flush.

Mover Brief

The Deployer Win

Coinbase is now the official USDC treasury deployer on Hyperliquid under the Aligned Quote Asset framework, and Native Markets has agreed to hand Coinbase the rights to the USDH brand assets as USDH winds down. USDH only launched in September 2025, peaked near $100M, and is being sunset gradually with fee-free USDC and fiat conversions for existing holders. Coinbase is framing this as the deepest onchain integration of any stablecoin to date, and the numbers back the framing: USDC supply on Hyperliquid sits around $5 billion and has roughly doubled year over year. This is not a partnership press release — it is a franchise capture. The native, HYPE-aligned stablecoin gets replaced by a Coinbase-managed reserve, on the perp venue that has done more onchain volume than every other DEX combined for most of the past year.

What Coinbase Actually Captured

The economic prize is the reserve yield on roughly $5B of always-on collateral parked on the leading onchain perp DEX. At current front-end Treasury rates, that float alone is a high-eight-figure annualized revenue stream, and it scales with Hyperliquid's order flow rather than with Coinbase's own retail funnel. Coinbase also increased its staked HYPE position as part of the alignment, which gives it skin in Hyperliquid's fee-and-buyback machine on top of the AQA economics. The strategic angle is sharper than the cash. USDH was the Hyperliquid-aligned answer to USDC — designed to route reserve yield back to HYPE holders rather than to an outside issuer. That bid is now gone. Instead, the venue most likely to fragment Coinbase's onchain franchise just plugged its collateral layer directly into Coinbase, the same week Coinbase publicly backed Hyperliquid's stablecoin push as DeFi volumes climb.

The CLARITY Act Tailwind

The deal hit the tape the same morning the Senate Banking Committee opened its markup of the 309-page Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act at 10:30 AM ET. More than 100 amendments were filed ahead of the vote, including Van Hollen's attempt to bar senior officials from crypto business ties and Warren's broader objections that the bill 'is just not ready.' The markup is not the finish line — the bill still has to be reconciled with the Senate Agriculture version, pass the floor, and merge with the House version — but it is the first real test of whether a market-structure bill can clear committee in 2026. For Coinbase specifically, CLARITY is the bull case management has been underwriting for two years: a federal token-classification regime and an explicit exchange registration path that ends the SEC enforcement overhang. Pairing that headline with the Hyperliquid franchise capture is what is moving the bid. Note the setup it lands into: COIN was down 5.3% on Tuesday's hot April CPI print and only a week removed from a Q1 EPS miss of −$1.49 against a +$0.27 consensus, so this is a reflexive recovery on top of a beaten-up book, not a fresh leg up from highs.
