DRAM Rips 10% as the Memory Rebound Accelerates Into SK Hynix's Q2 Print

The first-ever memory ETF is up 10.15% to $58.45, reversing weeks of getting sold on every bounce. A two-day rebound in Micron, SanDisk and Western Digital accelerated Tuesday behind a wave of bullish analyst notes, dragging a basket that is roughly three-quarters Micron, SK Hynix and Samsung along with it. The move lands one day before SK Hynix reports Q2 earnings, the cleanest read yet on whether the AI-memory shortage is actually converting to profit.

Mover Brief

The Sell-Every-Bounce Regime Just Broke

DRAM spent the back half of July getting sold on every rip as the PHLX Semiconductor Index shed roughly 20% over the prior month. Tuesday flipped that. Memory names extended a two-day rebound with SanDisk up 8% to $1,504, Western Digital up 9% to $531 and Micron up 7% to $923.

The proximate catalyst on the tape belongs to Micron. Bank of America's Vivek Arya raised his price target to $1,550 from $1,500 and reiterated Buy, calling it "another memorable beat" — an eighth straight quarterly EPS beat that topped consensus by 24%. That's still the afterglow of Micron's fiscal Q3 print, where EPS landed at $25.11 against roughly $20.28 expected and revenue hit $41.46 billion on ~85% gross margins. Be honest about what this is: no fresh fundamental news dropped on July 21. An oversold basket caught a bid as the analyst desks piled back in — JPMorgan's Mislav Matejka flagging semis as oversold with no meaningful supply additions before 2028, UBS and Citi hiking price forecasts, BofA lifting targets.

It's Really Three Stocks in a Trench Coat

DRAM sells itself as diversified memory exposure, but more than 73% of the fund sits in Micron, SK Hynix and Samsung — the big three DRAM makers. That makes the Hyperliquid perp a leveraged proxy on those three names, not a broad semiconductor bet.

Context on the volatility: the first-ever memory ETF launched April 2 and has more than doubled since debut, with a 52-week range from $26.14 to $81.34. A 10% session sits well inside its normal band rather than marking a regime change. When three concentrated holdings move 7–9% in a day, the ETF and its perp move with them, amplified by the fund's own momentum flows. The structural bid underneath is real — HBM consumes about three times the wafer capacity of conventional DRAM, so the AI buildout keeps the whole basket supply-constrained — but the day-to-day tape is a concentrated momentum trade, and it trades like one.

The Referendum Is July 22

This bounce is positioning into a binary. SK Hynix reports Q2 results on July 22, and as the world's #1 HBM supplier at 56.4% share, its print is the cleanest signal on whether the shortage is converting to earnings or getting absorbed by long-term contracts.

The bull case has numbers behind it. UBS lifted its DRAM contract-price forecast to +32% QoQ in Q3 and +18% in Q4, and models undersupply until at least 2Q28; Citigroup sees Micron ASPs growing +44%, +20% and +13% across the next three quarters. The structural wrinkle worth watching is contract design: SK Hynix has reportedly stripped the price cap out of its long-term agreements, letting spot spikes flow straight into contract pricing — where Micron's Strategic Customer Agreements cap existing-product prices at the Q2 2026 market level. If the shortage is genuinely intact, SK Hynix is the name that banks it first and hardest. If the print disappoints, a 73%-concentrated basket that just ripped 10% into the event has plenty of room to hand it back.
