MINIMAX Round-Trips Its Relief Bounce as the Dilution Overhang Reasserts

MINIMAX is down about 16% over seven hours to roughly $24.70, giving back the entire oversold bounce it posted a day earlier. The perp tracks Hong Kong-listed 0100.HK, which reversed from an intraday high near HK$228 back to a low of HK$196.40 and closed down almost 11% while the broader Hang Seng was roughly flat. There is no fresh MiniMax headline here — the reflex rally simply got sold as the post-lockup float, the discounted July placement, and a run of analyst target cuts continue to cap every bounce. Until that supply is absorbed and MiniMax ships something that re-rates the name, rips like this keep reading as exit liquidity inside a downtrend.

Mover Brief

The Bounce Got Sold

MINIMAX is trading near $24.70, down 15.95% over seven hours, and the move is almost the exact mirror image of yesterday's oversold bounce. The perp tracks Hong Kong-listed 0100.HK, which reversed from an intraday high near HK$228 back to a low of HK$196.40 and closed down 10.84% around HK$198.30 — a full round-trip of the relief rally that lifted it a day earlier.

There is no fresh MiniMax headline behind it. The Hang Seng was roughly flat and only Hong Kong's AI and tech names stayed soft, so a double-digit drop in MINIMAX is the reflex bounce being sold, not a market-wide event. In a thin post-lockup float, a stock that ran ~16% on nothing gives it all back just as easily.

The Overhang That Won't Clear

The reason every bounce keeps failing is supply. MiniMax's first lockup expired on July 8-9, freeing roughly 46% of its share capital and triggering a 17.98% single-day crash. Two days later the company leaned straight into the weakness with a raise, pricing 35.6 million new Class A shares at HK$268 — a 9.9% discount to the HK$297.4 close alongside zero-coupon convertible bonds for a combined take of about $1.9 billion, net proceeds near HK$15.96 billion.

The Street reacted in kind. JPMorgan cut its target twice in under a week and UBS halved its, sending the shares down about 18% on Monday, with consensus targets still sliding. Add it up and the market cap has fallen from about HK$410 billion in March to under HK$100 billion — roughly 85% off the HK$1,330 high.

What Would Change the Trade

For the pattern to break, two things have to give. First, the freed float and the placement stock need to be absorbed; until then rips read as exit liquidity. Second, MiniMax has to re-establish that it belongs in the top tier of Chinese model labs — and the competitive read is going the other way. Moonshot's Kimi K3, launched July 17, posted benchmark scores that overshadowed MiniMax, while DeepSeek and Zhipu command more of the mindshare and the market has shifted from paying a scarcity premium to demanding commercialization proof. The fundamentals don't yet answer that: a CNY 13.16 billion loss in 2025 against roughly 159% revenue growth, with softening user engagement.

One caveat specific to this venue: the HIP-3 market is thin, with under $2 million in 24-hour volume, and it prices off an oracle tracking an already thin, high-beta Hong Kong float. Both legs amplify moves in either direction, which is exactly why a 16% pop and a 16% giveback can print in consecutive sessions.
