NBIS Round-Trips the Meta-Compute Washout as the $46B Backlog Reasserts

NBIS is back at $223 on the Hyperliquid perp, up 21.96% over 23 hours and now fully round-tripped from the ~$183 low that marked the depth of the early-July Meta-compute derating. There is no single clean catalyst — the most concrete driver was TTRF Capital disclosing NBIS as its largest holding, wrapped in a stack of incremental positives and heavy oversold mean-reversion. What the recovery really prices in is the other side of the Meta fear: roughly $46 billion of contracted backlog with Microsoft and Meta, and Q1 revenue up 684% year over year. The market is deciding the derating overshot, even as the stock still sits about 25% below its late-June peak near $290.

Mover Brief

The Washout Is Fully Round-Tripped

NBIS is back at $223 on the Hyperliquid perp, up 21.96% over the last 23 hours off the ~$183 low that marked the deepest point of the Meta-compute derating. On the underlying, Nebius opened at $192.67, tagged an intraday high of $218.49, and closed at $216.48 on July 8 — an 11.13% session — then pushed to roughly $222 in July 9 premarket. That completes a full retrace of the early-July selloff that dragged the stock down from the high $280s. This is the recovery leg finishing its round-trip, not a fresh breakout: even here, NBIS sits roughly 25% below its late-June peak near $290.

There's No Clean Catalyst — Just a Stack of Small Ones

Be honest about the driver: there isn't one headline behind this leg. The most concrete named catalyst was TTRF Capital disclosing it had made NBIS its largest portfolio holding, a stake-building signal tied to the ~7.67% July 8 pop. Around it sits a cluster of incrementals rather than a single event — the AI Cloud Aether 3.6 release with security, governance, and storage upgrades, a six-month Physical AI Living Lab for European robotics startups, and lingering mechanical bid from June's Nasdaq-100 inclusion. None of these explains a 22% move on its own. Together with washed-out positioning and thin books, they explain a violent mean-reversion.

The Backlog Is Winning the Argument With the Meta Fear

The reason NBIS was down at $183 in the first place hasn't changed: the July 1 report that Meta is building a cloud to sell excess compute lit the fear that Nebius's biggest customer becomes its biggest competitor. What the round-trip prices in is the other side of that ledger. Nebius carries roughly $46 billion of contracted backlog — $19.4 billion with Microsoft and up to $27 billion with Meta — and just posted Q1 2026 revenue of $399 million, up 684% year over year, with 2026 capex guided up to $20–25 billion. A business with that much locked demand doesn't trade like one whose anchor customer is walking. The market is deciding the derating overshot — that Meta being a ~$27 billion customer still outweighs Meta being a future rival.

What to Watch

The next real test is earnings, where Nebius has to prove it's more than a Meta counterparty — that non-Meta demand and AI cloud margins can carry the multiple without leaning on the mega-contracts. Technically, the tape is consolidating in a rough $188–232 band; holding above the $218–223 shelf turns this round-trip into a base, while a failure back under $200 re-opens the washout lows. The Meta-compete overhang doesn't fully clear until Meta's own cloud is actually priced — until then, this stays a sentiment tape reacting to positioning more than a fundamentals tape reacting to numbers.
