How to Trade EWZ (iShares MSCI Brazil ETF) on Hyperliquid
EWZ is the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF, a USD-denominated basket of large- and mid-cap Brazilian equities heavily tilted toward commodities, banks, and energy. As of early May 2026, Brazilian equities have led emerging markets year-to-date and pulled in record foreign inflows. EWZ is now tradeable as a HIP-3 perpetual on Hyperliquid with up to 20x leverage, giving crypto-native traders direct access to the Brazil macro trade without leaving their on-chain stack.
Market Guide
What EWZ Actually Owns
EWZ tracks the MSCI Brazil 25/50 Index, a basket of roughly 54 large- and mid-cap Brazilian companies. The top of the book concentrates the fund into a handful of national champions: mining giant Vale at about 10.4%, fintech Nu Holdings near 8.7%, Itaú Unibanco around 8.4%, and two share classes of Petrobras that together approach 15% of NAV. That is the trade — when you buy EWZ, you are functionally long Brazilian iron ore, oil, and the country's biggest banks, packaged in a single USD-listed wrapper. The fund carries a 0.59% expense ratio and a roughly 4.15% trailing dividend yield, which makes it unusually income-rich for a single-country EM ETF and a different animal from the sector or thematic ETFs that dominate HIP-3 listings.
Why Brazil Is Back on the Tape
Brazil has gone from emerging-market also-ran to one of 2026's cleanest macro stories. The B3-listed Ibovespa closed at 186,607 points on May 5, 2026, with Brazilian equities up roughly 24% year-to-date through February, outperforming broader EM benchmarks by 16 percentage points. The driver is capital rotation: net foreign equity inflows hit BRL 53.7 billion (about USD 10.4 billion) in Q1 2026, already double the full-year 2024 figure, while foreign participation on B3 climbed from an average 58% in 2025 to roughly 62% by February. Softer US yields, a weaker dollar, and a commodity bid have pulled global money back into a market most allocators had abandoned. UBS BB has flagged a possible move toward 200,000 on the Ibovespa if those conditions hold.
Trading the HIP-3 Perp
The HIP-3 contract is a USD-margined perpetual on the xyz deployer that tracks one share of EWZ. Mark price follows the US-listed ETF during NYSE trading hours, and funding rates do the work of keeping the perp tethered around the close, overnight, and through weekends when the cash market is dark. That matters in practice: traders looking to size around US economic prints, FOMC, or Banco Central do Brasil rate decisions can carry directional Brazil exposure 24/7 without brokerage hours, T+1 settlement, or W-8 forms. The contract is leveraged, which is a tool for sharpening conviction on a macro view, not a substitute for sizing — 30-day realized volatility on Brazilian equities is around 22%, and because the perp lives offshore, expect funding to do most of the heavy lifting absorbing gaps when the underlying ETF is closed.
Risks and What Can Break the Thesis
The bull case has clear opposing risks. Brazil's October 2026 presidential election is the obvious one — every recent Brazilian electoral cycle has been a vol event for both the real and EWZ, and foreign positioning is now crowded enough to be unwound on a single bad poll. Domestic interest rates are still near 15%, supportive for the currency but a brake on growth, and the Finance Ministry has trimmed its 2026 GDP forecast to 2.3%. The other tail is commodities: with Vale and the two Petrobras lines anchoring close to a quarter of the fund, an iron ore or crude drawdown drags EWZ regardless of how global equities trade. Read this name as a leveraged expression of the EM-rotation, weak-dollar, commodity-bid macro — and watch for breaks in any of those legs as the signal to cut exposure or flip short.
