How to Trade GEV (GE Vernova) on Hyperliquid

GEV is GE Vernova, the power-generation and grid company General Electric spun out in April 2024, and it has become one of the cleanest listed proxies for the electricity buildout behind AI data centers. Its Q2 2026 report showed $24.2 billion in orders and a record $176 billion backlog, alongside an EPS miss that left the stock volatile. On Hyperliquid, GEV trades as a HIP-3 perpetual futures contract referencing one share of GE Vernova common stock, quoted in USD and settled in USDC with up to 10x leverage. That means round-the-clock exposure to a stock whose underlying only trades during NYSE hours.

What GE Vernova Actually Sells

GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) is the energy hardware business General Electric spun off in April 2024, when the old conglomerate split into three. It sells the physical machinery that makes and moves electricity, across three segments:

  • Power — heavy-duty gas turbines, nuclear (through GE Vernova Hitachi), hydro and steam.
  • Electrification — transformers, switchgear, grid software, power conversion, storage.
  • Wind — onshore and offshore turbines.

The simplest way to hold GEV in your head: it is a capital-goods company with a multi-year order book, not a tech company with quarterly product cycles. Roughly $176 billion of that order book sat in backlog at the end of Q2 2026, up $13 billion in a single quarter and on management's stated path toward $200 billion in 2027.

Electrification is where the business has been most aggressively reshaped. In February 2026 GE Vernova closed its purchase of the remaining 50% of Prolec GE for $5.275 billion, buying full control of a North American transformer maker with about 10,000 employees and seven plants. Transformers are the single tightest bottleneck in grid expansion right now; owning that capacity outright is a supply-chain move, not a financial one.

Why GEV Trades the Way It Does

GEV is the market's preferred expression of one trade: electricity demand is growing again after two decades of flatness, and AI data centers are the reason. That thesis shows up directly in the order line. Q2 2026 orders were $24.2 billion, up 88% year over year, with equipment orders more than doubling and Electrification booking over $5 billion of data center orders in the first half alone. Management raised 2026 guidance to $45.5–46.5 billion of revenue and $11.5–12.5 billion of free cash flow.

The counterweight is that GEV is priced for that story. The same quarter produced adjusted EPS of $2.47 against a $3.04 consensus — an 18% miss — and the stock sold off on the print despite the record orders. Wind is still the problem child: orders down 40% and a $275 million quarterly EBITDA loss. When a name runs to roughly $1,080 and near record highs, the bar for each print is high and the reaction function is asymmetric.

The practical read: GEV moves on order announcements, hyperscaler capex commentary, and turbine capacity guidance more than on quarterly EPS. Earnings are where the multiple gets tested, not where the thesis gets decided.

How the HIP-3 Perp Works

GEV on Hyperliquid is not the stock. It is a builder-deployed perpetual futures contract under HIP-3, the framework that went live on mainnet in October 2025 and lets qualified deployers launch markets for equities, indices, commodities and FX. This market comes from the xyz deployer and references one share of GE Vernova common stock, quoted in USD.

What that means mechanically:

  • Synthetic exposure only. No shares, no dividends, no voting rights. GE Vernova's declared quarterly dividend does not accrue to you.
  • USDC settlement on Hyperliquid's L1, with margin and PnL in USDC rather than dollars in a brokerage account.
  • Hourly funding anchors the perp to the deployer's oracle reference. Persistent premium means longs pay shorts; persistent discount means the reverse.
  • Up to 10x leverage, meaningfully more than a cash equity account and enough to make gap risk a real position-sizing problem.

The deployer's oracle design is a first-order risk here, not a footnote. HIP-3 markets inherit the quality of whatever price feed the deployer runs, which is a different risk surface than a crypto perp priced off deep global spot venues.

Key Trading Considerations

The 24/7 mismatch is the main thing. The perp trades continuously; NYSE does not. Overnight, weekends and market holidays, GEV price discovery happens with the underlying closed. Positions carried into a Monday open — or into a Sunday-evening headline about hyperscaler capex — face gap risk that no stop placed on the perp can reliably protect against. Size for the gap, not for the intraday range.

Liquidity is thin right now. Recent 24h volume on this HIP-3 market was roughly $22.4k. At a ~$1,080 mark, that is a handful of contracts. Slippage and funding dislocation are live costs, and a 10x position that looks small in notional terms can be large relative to the book. Use limit orders; assume exits are worse than entries.

Know your catalysts. GE Vernova's investor relations page carries earnings dates and presentations, and the company newsroom is where order announcements land — recent examples include the next phase of a Texas gas-plus-nuclear project with Blue Energy and expanded manufacturing in Pennsylvania. These are the events that move the tape.

Respect the valuation debate. Multiple sell-side and quantitative frameworks have flagged GEV as extended after a run to record highs, and the Q2 EPS miss gave that camp ammunition. A crowded thesis with a high multiple can correct hard without the underlying business changing — a scenario leverage punishes disproportionately.
