RTX Perp Drops 25% Below Spot on Thin HIP-3 Liquidity

The km:RTX perpetual dropped 25.79% over 18 hours to $154.30 while RTX Corporation stock on the NYSE closed at $207.00 on March 10 with no corresponding selloff. This is a liquidity-driven dislocation specific to a thinly-traded HIP-3 market, not a signal about the aerospace and defense conglomerate's fundamentals.

Mover Brief

The Divergence

RTX Corporation trades at roughly $207 on the New York Stock Exchange. The km:RTX perpetual is printing $154.30 — a 25% discount to the underlying equity. There is no fundamental news event behind this gap.

The km:RTX market recorded just $146,438 in 24-hour volume. For context, RTX traded 8.6 million shares on the NYSE on March 9 alone, representing over $1.7 billion in notional turnover. The perp market is a rounding error by comparison.

The spot stock has been range-bound between $205 and $214 over the past week, closing at $207.00 on March 10 after a modest 0.6% dip from the prior session. Nothing in the equity market explains a 25% drawdown.

Why HIP-3 Books Gap This Hard

HIP-3 builder-deployed perpetuals are permissionless markets where a deployer defines the oracle, tick size, and margin model. The km deployer has listed RTX alongside dozens of other equity and commodity perps.

The problem is straightforward: with sub-$150k daily volume, a single directional position can move the market by double digits. There is no arbitrage corridor keeping the perp tethered to NYSE price discovery the way there would be on a liquid venue. Funding payments settle hourly, but when there are almost no counterparties to take the other side, funding alone cannot close a gap this wide.

Hyperliquid's validator framework does flag HIP-3 assets when the external reference price moves more than 50% from the start-of-day price, but the divergence here is being driven by the perp itself, not the underlying — which makes the safeguard less relevant.

The Actual RTX Picture

RTX's fundamentals are complicated but not distressed. The company guided for $92–93 billion in adjusted sales and $6.60–$6.80 in adjusted EPS for 2026, backed by a record $268 billion backlog.

The headwinds are real but priced in. Pratt & Whitney's GTF engine recall — caused by contaminated powder metal in turbine components built between 2015 and 2021 — has forced Airbus to trim its A320neo production target to 70–75 aircraft per month by end of 2027, down from 75. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury publicly blamed Pratt & Whitney for "resigning from the orders" it had accepted for 2026 volumes.

On the defense side, the Iran conflict (Operation Epic Fury, launched February 28) has drawn down U.S. weapons stockpiles, prompting a March 6 White House meeting with defense executives including RTX leadership and talk of a $50 billion supplemental budget. That's bullish for Raytheon's missile business — but DOGE spending cuts are creating cross-currents in overall government procurement.

None of this adds up to a 25% move. The perp is trading in its own universe.
