How to Trade TER (Teradyne) on Hyperliquid

What Teradyne Actually Sells

Teradyne (NASDAQ: TER) does not design chips and does not fabricate them. It builds the machines that decide whether a finished chip works. Automated test equipment sits at the end of the semiconductor line: every SoC, every HBM stack, every NAND die gets probed on a tester before it ships. Teradyne's UltraFLEXplus and Magnum platforms are the industry standard for that step, and the company competes mainly with Advantest, with KLA and Cohu adjacent in inspection and handling.

The second business is robotics — Universal Robots collaborative arms and Mobile Industrial Robots AMRs. It is real but small, at $100 million in Q2 2026 against $1.12 billion in semiconductor test. Anyone trading TER is trading test equipment. Treat robotics as an option, not a thesis.

Why this matters for the trade: test intensity rises with chip complexity. Advanced packaging, chiplets, and HBM all require more test time per unit of silicon than a mobile SoC did five years ago. That is the structural argument for why Teradyne captures more dollars per wafer as AI compute scales, and it is the reason a test-equipment name has re-rated alongside the fabs it serves.

The Numbers Behind the Re-Rating

Teradyne has printed two consecutive record quarters. Q1 2026 revenue was $1.282 billion, with semiconductor test crossing $1 billion for the first time. Q2 2026 came in at $1.329 billion, up 104% year over year, with non-GAAP EPS of $2.47 and GAAP EPS of $2.38. Semiconductor test alone grew 128% and now makes up 84% of sales.

The mix shift is the story. Compute revenue inside the SoC segment grew close to 600% year over year, and memory test hit a record on DRAM strength plus a NAND final-test recovery. AI-linked demand went from roughly 60% of revenue to closer to 70% in two quarters. Gross margin ran 59.8% in Q2, up 250 basis points year over year but down 110 basis points sequentially from Q1's 60.9%. Operating margin was 33.7%.

Now the part the headline growth rate hides. Management guided Q3 2026 to $1.2–$1.3 billion in revenue and $1.85–$2.15 non-GAAP EPS — a sequential step down from Q2 in both lines. The vertical phase is over; what remains is a high base with year-over-year comparisons that get harder every quarter. CEO Greg Smith pointed at wafer fab equipment investment setting up "continued growth in 2027 and beyond," which is a real signal, but it is a 2027 signal, not a Q3 one.

Valuation is where the disagreement lives. TER trades near $432.50 after roughly doubling in 2026 and joining the Nasdaq-100 in June. Cantor put a $550 target on it while the broader sell-side consensus sat near $399 — a spread that means the price is above where the average analyst thinks it should be. That is not a sell signal on its own, but it does tell you the stock is pricing the bull case and has little cushion if AI capex guidance wobbles.

How the HIP-3 Perp Works

TER on Hyperliquid is a perpetual futures contract, not a share. You do not own equity, you do not receive dividends, and you have no vote. The contract tracks the price of one Teradyne share via an oracle, and your P&L comes from the price difference plus or minus funding.

The market is deployed under HIP-3, Hyperliquid's builder-deployed perpetuals framework. A deployer stakes 500,000 HYPE to run its own perp DEX on HyperCore, and that deployer — para, in this case — sets the oracle, the leverage cap, and the margin parameters, while settlement and matching stay on Hyperliquid's core infrastructure. Deployers can be slashed by validator vote for malicious market operation. It is worth understanding this structure before sizing: you are trusting a specific deployer's oracle, not just Hyperliquid's matching engine.

Max leverage here is 10x. Collateral is crypto, so you can take equity exposure without a brokerage account, and the market runs 24/7 rather than on the 9:30–16:00 ET Nasdaq session.

What to Watch Before You Size

Liquidity is the first constraint. TER's HIP-3 perp did roughly $14,490 in 24-hour volume. That is a thin book. Market orders will slip, large positions will be hard to unwind at your mark, and a liquidation cascade in a shallow book is a real risk at 10x. Use limit orders, size to what you can exit, and check depth before assuming you can trade the number you have in your head.

The oracle keeps moving when Nasdaq is closed. A 24/7 perp on a security that trades 6.5 hours a weekday means overnight and weekend price discovery happens with no underlying cash market to anchor it. Gaps around the Monday open and around earnings releases are the structural hazard. Teradyne reports quarterly; the Q2 print landed July 29, 2026, so the next event sits in the back half of October.

Funding is the carry cost. In a market where everyone wants long exposure to an AI-adjacent name, funding tends to run positive and longs pay shorts. Over a multi-week hold that is a meaningful drag. Check the rate, not just the entry.

Correlation is high and it is not your edge. TER moves with the semiconductor complex and with rate expectations — it sold off with other high-multiple chip names on a hot CPI print+slides+as+hot+CPI+print+pressures+chip+stocks+and+high-multiple+names). If you already hold AI-beta positions, a TER long is not diversification, it is concentration with extra steps.

The bear case is specific, not vague. Test equipment is capital equipment, which means it is cyclical and lumpy. Orders arrive in bursts tied to fab expansion decisions. A 59x trailing multiple prices continuation; a single guide-down on AI capex, or a memory pause after the NAND recovery runs its course, resets that multiple fast. Advantest competes directly for the same AI test sockets. None of this says the thesis is wrong — it says the entry price leaves little room to be early.
