How to Trade NET (Cloudflare) on Hyperliquid

NET is Cloudflare, the network, security, and edge-compute company whose infrastructure sits between internet users and millions of websites and applications. In 2026 it has become one of the more interesting equities for crypto traders to hold a view on: it cut 20% of its workforce to reorganize around agentic AI, then shipped stablecoin wallets and payment identity for AI agents. On Hyperliquid, NET trades as a HIP-3 perpetual futures contract deployed by para, margined in USDC, with up to 10x leverage and no market close. This guide covers what the company actually does, why the agent-payments pivot matters, and what to watch before sizing a position.

What Cloudflare Actually Sells

Cloudflare (NYSE: NET) is a network company that grew into an infrastructure platform. The original business was a content delivery network and DDoS mitigation service sitting in front of customer websites. That footprint — millions of internet properties routing through Cloudflare's edge — became the distribution channel for everything since: a web application firewall, Zero Trust access replacing corporate VPNs, Workers for edge compute, R2 for object storage with no egress fees, and an AI inference layer running on that same edge.

The financials say this is working at the top line and still unfinished at the bottom. In Q2 2026, reported August 6, revenue was $696.1 million, up 36% year over year. Non-GAAP operating income was $96.1 million, or 13.8% of revenue, and free cash flow was $56.4 million. The company held $4.16 billion in cash and equivalents.

But the GAAP picture is a $205.7 million operating loss — 29.6% of revenue — and a $170.0 million net loss. Some of that is restructuring, covered below, and a large share is stock-based compensation, which is structural rather than one-time. Gross margin also compressed 320 basis points year over year to 73.1%, the cost of buying GPUs and building out edge capacity. Guidance was raised to $2.864–$2.870 billion for full-year 2026 with non-GAAP EPS of $1.25–$1.26. Q3 revenue guidance of $736–737 million implies growth decelerating to roughly 31%.

The customer mix is the quieter tell. Large customers grew 27% to 4,698 and now produce 73% of revenue, and dollar-based net retention improved to 120%, up six points year over year. Enterprises are not just renewing, they are expanding — which is the metric that separates a commoditizing CDN from a platform.

The Agentic Pivot Is the Whole Trade

Two events in 2026 reframed what you are actually buying when you buy NET.

The first was on May 7, when Cloudflare announced it would cut approximately 20% of its workforce — around 1,100 people — and take $140–150 million in charges. Management explicitly framed it as not a cost-cutting exercise but a move to an "agentic AI-first operating model," citing internal AI usage up more than 600% over three months. Investors did not initially read it charitably; the stock sold off hard on the announcement. The $150.7 million restructuring charge landed in Q2, and execution is expected to be substantially complete by the end of Q3.

The second was Agents Week in early August. Cloudflare gave AI agents an identity and a wallet: Cloudflare Wallets, which lets agents hold stablecoins and pay for what they consume, and cloudflare.pay, a permanent bot-readable handle that tells a merchant which human account an agent is acting for. The architecture is a human-held Account Wallet delegating capped spend to agent-operated Virtual Wallets, each bounded by an allowance, an allow list, and a maximum transaction size. Settlement runs over x402, the open protocol that embeds payments directly into HTTP.

This is where the story stops being a generic software trade for a crypto audience. Cloudflare already runs the demand side of this market through pay per crawl and the Monetization Gateway, which lets publishers charge callers per request rather than serve them free. Wallets supplies the buyer side. The result is a two-sided micropayment market for machine-to-machine access, settled in stablecoins, on infrastructure that already fronts a large slice of the web. If agentic commerce becomes a real category, Cloudflare is positioned as the toll booth and the clearinghouse at once — and the volume flows through stablecoin rails, not card networks.

That is the bull case in one line: a network company converting its incumbency into a payments business at the exact moment machines start buying things. The bear case is that agentic commerce stays a demo for several more years while the P&L absorbs the cost of building for it.

Cloudflare is funding that build cheaply. On August 10 the company moved to sell $2.175 billion in convertible senior notes, and the deal upsized: on August 13 it issued $2.5 billion of 0% convertible senior notes due 2031 at an initial conversion price near $496.94, roughly a 60% premium to the August 10 close. Net proceeds were about $2.46 billion, with $259.5 million spent on capped calls to blunt dilution. Zero-coupon money at a 60% conversion premium is what equity issuers get when the market is paying up for their story.

Inside the HIP-3 Perp

NET on Hyperliquid is not a share of Cloudflare. It is a perpetual futures contract referencing the price of one share, deployed under HIP-3, Hyperliquid's builder-deployed perpetuals framework. You hold no equity, no voting rights, and no claim on the company. You hold exposure to a price.

HIP-3 lets a builder stake HYPE — the requirement is 500,000 HYPE — and operate its own perp DEX on HyperCore, setting its own oracle, margining rules, collateral, and market parameters. Settlement, matching, and the order book still run on Hyperliquid's core infrastructure. This NET market is deployed by para. Position sizing is capped at 10x leverage, and the contract is margined in USDC.

The economics differ from Hyperliquid's native crypto markets in one way that matters: on HIP-3 markets, taker and maker fees are 2x the standard validator-operated rate, with 50% of that flowing to the deployer. On a stock perp with modest expected daily range, doubled fees are a real drag on high-frequency strategies. Position traders will barely notice; scalpers should model it explicitly.

The more interesting structural feature is the clock. NET's underlying trades on the NYSE during US market hours. The perp does not stop. You can hold, add, or close NET exposure on a Saturday night, which is genuinely useful when news breaks outside the session — an 8-K, a competitor's earnings, an AI capex headline. The tradeoff is that during those hours there is no cash market setting a reference price, so the contract trades on whatever the deployer's oracle and the order book agree on. Funding payments are what pull the perp back toward the reference price; when the market reopens, any accumulated divergence resolves at once. Weekend gap risk is real and it is not hedgeable in the underlying.

What to Check Before You Size

Liquidity is the first constraint, not the thesis. This market did $39,243 in 24-hour volume against a share price of $315.40. That is a thin book. It means slippage on market orders, wide spreads at times, and a genuine risk that you cannot exit a large position at a price close to where you marked it. Size to the book, use limit orders, and assume the depth you see is the depth you get. A correct directional view expressed in an illiquid market can still lose money on execution.

Understand the oracle dependency. Under HIP-3, the deployer controls the price feed and market parameters. You are taking on the deployer's operational reliability alongside your view on Cloudflare. This is a different risk profile from Hyperliquid's validator-operated crypto markets, and it is worth understanding before leverage is applied.

The valuation leaves no slack. The stock closed at an all-time high of $330.83 on August 13, and the current $315.40 is just below that. At roughly $2.87 billion of guided 2026 revenue, the multiple prices in successful execution of the agentic pivot. Growth is guided to decelerate from 36% to about 31% next quarter. A high-multiple, GAAP-unprofitable name that misses on growth does not correct gently — and the Q1 reaction to the restructuring announcement showed how quickly this stock repriced on a single headline.

Watch the restructuring for second-order damage. Cutting 1,100 people and claiming AI absorbs the work is an aggressive bet. The metrics that would reveal it going wrong are lagging ones: enterprise net retention rolling over, large-customer additions slowing, support quality complaints from named accounts. None of that shows up in a quarter. Q3 results, with the restructuring substantially complete, are the first clean read.

Know the near-term catalysts. Q3 earnings, Cloudflare's Birthday Week product launches, any disclosed traction numbers on Wallets, cloudflare.pay, or the Monetization Gateway, and macro repricing of AI infrastructure names as a group. NET correlates with that basket; on a broad AI drawdown it will not trade on its own fundamentals.

One last framing point. The 0% convertible does not eliminate dilution, it defers it to roughly $496.94 per share, and the capped calls only soften the edge. If the thesis works, existing holders pay for it in shares later. That is a reasonable trade for the company. It is a term you should price if you are long the equity exposure over a multi-year horizon — though most perp positions will not live that long, and funding cost, not dilution, is what will grind at you.
